RuralPay
RuralPay is an offline-first field app built for agents working at collection points with no signal, allowing them to record sales, purchases and collections instantly and sync safely once connected. The system reconciles agent commissions automatically and hands off payments to a licensed provider so Gyrus never holds funds.
The problem
Operations leads at agricultural co-operatives, produce aggregators and collection-network operators manage field agents who work in remote areas with poor or intermittent connectivity. Agents record transactions on paper and those records are re-typed back at the office, creating opportunities for error and lost time. Disagreements over commission calculations and payment timing cause friction with field staff and slow down settlement. Cash handling at collection points is reconciled manually, and discrepancies are often discovered too late to trace. These challenges peak seasonally when new collection points open, when records are disputed with no clear audit trail, or when funding or a digitalisation grant requires moving from paper to digital workflows.
The product
RuralPay is an offline-first mobile app that lets field agents record sales, purchases and collections even without mobile signal. The app stores transactions locally in an encrypted database, prevents duplicate writes through unique transaction IDs, and syncs safely in the background once connected. Agents work within role-based permissions set to their assigned collection site. They record transactions, issue receipts on paper or SMS, and at day-end reconcile physical cash against recorded transactions, with the system flagging variances. The system calculates commissions from your rules, displays period statements and allows agents to dispute earnings through notes. The core modules are the offline transaction queue, collections and sales capture, agent and point-of-collection model, commission and settlement ledger, and reconciliation and cash-up.
What it does
Offline transaction queue
The app stores transactions locally, syncs in the background when connected, prevents duplicate writes and resolves conflicts between devices using rule-based precedence.
Agent & point-of-collection model
Agents are assigned to collection sites with role-based permissions that control what each agent can view and record.
Collections & sales capture
Field staff record weighed or counted items, identify the payer and payee, and issue receipts on paper or via SMS.
Commission & settlement ledger
Agent earnings are calculated from rules you define, displayed in period statements and can be disputed through a notes interface if there is a disagreement.
Reconciliation & cash-up
Agents reconcile the physical cash at the end of the day against recorded transactions and the system flags any variance.
Multilingual UI
Language packs are provided by you — the client — so the app speaks to your agents in their language.
Problems it solves
- Field agents write transactions on paper and the data is re-typed back at the office, creating opportunities for error and lost time.
- Collection sites have no reliable mobile signal for days at a time, making real-time recording and sync impossible.
- Disagreements between agents and the head office over commission calculations and payment timing cause friction and slow settlement.
- Cash handling at collection points is reconciled manually and gaps are often discovered too late to trace.
Standards it follows
- E-invoicing is required if receipts issued to payers are classified as invoices under the e-invoicing directive.
