AquaTrace
AquaTrace provides lot-level digital traceability across the aquaculture and seafood supply chain, from hatchery through processor to retailer. Each lot carries treatment and withdrawal records, QR-linked data visibility, and exportable regulatory documentation.
The problem
Today, lot records at aquaculture farms, processors, and distribution centers live scattered across paper sheets and spreadsheets at different production stages, making regulatory audits and compliance verification manual, time-consuming, and error-prone. When a retailer, certifier, or authority asks for complete lot documentation, assembling that data from multiple spreadsheets and sites often reveals gaps or inconsistencies that delay shipment or trigger compliance concerns. The regulations that drive this problem are now becoming mandatory: Reg. (EU) 2023/2842 mandates digital traceability with a minimum information set for Chapter 3 aquaculture lots from 10 January 2026 onwards, and the cost of non-compliance includes export bans and certification loss.
The product
AquaTrace brings digital traceability into your aquaculture and seafood operations by making every lot's journey visible and verifiable. The system tracks batches from the hatchery through harvest, processing, and dispatch, preserving parent-child relationships at each stage. Each lot carries a configurable minimum data set, treatment and withdrawal records with automatic safety-period alerts, and partner-scoped visibility so that processors see only the lots they receive and farmers control what their buyers access. QR codes link to lot pages showing full traceability history, and exportable regulatory reports meet country-specific authority filing requirements. The core modules—lot and batch model, minimum traceability record, QR lot pages, treatment and withdrawal logging, and partner handover—form the foundation; regulatory exports, sensor data integration, and processed-product modules extend capability as needed.
What it does
Lot & batch model
The system tracks pond or tank batches through harvest lots, processing lots, and dispatch lots, with parent-child relationships preserved at each stage.
Minimum traceability record
Each lot carries a configurable minimum data set according to regulatory requirements, available digitally on request to partners or authorities.
QR lot pages & certificates
QR codes link to lot pages with full traceability history, and a PDF summary can be generated and shared at any point in the chain.
Treatment & withdrawal log
The system logs veterinary treatments with automatic withdrawal-period alerts that block harvest until the safe interval has elapsed.
Partner handover
When a lot moves to the next party—processor or buyer—digital handover transfers data with partner-scoped visibility rules enforced.
Regulatory exports
Export formats and regulatory reports are configured per country or authority to meet local filing and transparency requirements.
Problems it solves
- Lot records are scattered across paper and spreadsheets at different production stages, making audits and compliance verification manual and error-prone.
- New digital traceability obligations mean manual spreadsheet systems no longer meet regulatory expectations.
- Veterinary treatment records and withdrawal-period compliance are difficult to track reliably across production and processing sites.
- Providing verifiable lot data to buyers, retailers, and authorities requires manual assembly and carries the risk of missing or incorrect information.
Standards it follows
- Reg. (EU) 2023/2842 mandates digital traceability with a minimum information set for lots; Chapter 3 product lots must comply from 10 January 2026, while prepared products and seaweed follow from 10 January 2029.
- Reg. (EU) 1379/2013 requires consumer-facing information labels and transparency for all fishery and aquaculture products.
- Reg. (EU) 2019/6 governs veterinary medicine use and antimicrobial prescribing in aquaculture, requiring detailed records of every treatment.
